March is celebrated as women’s month the world over and the screening and event surrounding it focused on women as well. The film was an hour long BBC documentary film, titled The Secret World of Haute Couture, and once again we were graced by the directors presence, Margy Kinmonth. The event was brought to our audiences by Dubai Culture and under the patronage of the Dubai International Film Festival. We also had event specific sponsors for the night i.e. Liali Jewellery and Lancome who provided all our female guests with goodie bags and special prizes for the best dressed woman and runner up as well as the film’s director. An awards ceremony was held prior to the screening to honour all our sponsors thus far. All in all a fantastic evening. The Scene Club Launched Lebanese Night at Dubai International Film Festival
The Scene Club this year launched ‘Lebanese Night’ in partnership with the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF). The two-night event was a special screening of four short films from Lebanon, a showcase of brilliant filmmaking across the board.
This joint event helped cement the relationship between the Lebanese community in the UAE, The Scene Club and DIFF. The emphasis was on the vibrant energy and unique perspective of a shortlist of some of Lebanon’s most celebrated and applauded creative minds. This was in line with DIFF’s mandate to promote excellence in Arab cinema.
The Scene Club is extremely proud to have been involved in this year’s festival and grateful to DIFF for the opportunity to participate in the Lebanese Night. The initiative is in line with our vision to promote indigenous filmmaking and is dedicated to improving the UAE’s cinematic offering.
The Lebanese Night repertoire included the world premiere Off War Beirut by Myriam Elhajj featuring theatre director Ziad, his wife Sarah and actress Anna, whose lives are plunged into turmoil as Lebanon teeters on the brink of civil war.
